Used to introduce a piece of bad news or an unwelcome fact.
“Unfortunately, I have to cancel our plans for Saturday.”
“Unfortunately, the item you ordered is currently out of stock.”
This is one of the most useful words for Task 6, since almost every response needs to introduce the difficult part of the situation. Use it to transition smoothly into the problem, such as 'Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it,' before offering your solution.
Synonyms: regrettably, sadly, unluckily
