To clearly show that something is true, usually by giving proof, an example, or evidence.
“This example demonstrates that flexible work hours increase employee satisfaction.”
“Recent surveys demonstrate that most commuters prefer public transit over driving.”
In Speaking Task 7, use 'demonstrate' when introducing an example or piece of evidence that supports your opinion, such as 'This demonstrates that...'. It sounds more precise than simply saying 'this shows,' and CELPIP raters give credit for varied, exact vocabulary when explaining reasoning.
